I picked up.
At first it sounded like Naga but sooner the tone was very much concern and caring .He said '' hey,do you know me''
I : Ya.Boon Kent!
-The battery went dead-
I quickly charged and the call came in again.
Kent: How did you know it was me?
I: Well, i have a fren in aus, his name would have appeared, so from the voice, I knew it was you =)
-Then he was asking about me missing them so much bla bla bla and talked on aus.bla bla bla -
He made my day =)
I was very happy he made that call. And he was excited when I said jw,gk and myself will show up nxt year!
Miss you gays!!!
Atta
In memory of 'Atta' who passed away in February 2002.
Love, Ashvinii
( I'm sitting on her lap when I was two, on rattan chair is maternal grandma, whereas at the end is mother's sis in law's mom)I am currently lacking of sleep even though I am Not sleepy.
I slept at 12 and I was awake from 2.45 till 7.40 am.
This will kinda of go on till late July I suppose.
Freaking med.
Anyway, during those hours I was practically shutting my eyes and was thinking about my times during childhood.
Mostly I join the paternal side.
I was pampered most there =)
Wasn't a spoiled child but at a long period I was the only youngest female cousin.
Hooray!
Anyway, the thing is I started to miss my late grandma.
Paternal grandma.
I didn't have the chance to meet both my grandfathers.
But I am able to meet only my paternal grandpa's brothers.
Even so, they passed away quite long ago.
I remember my dad always asked us to kiss grandpa's brother and reminded us we are lucky enough have them.
Of course
la, when we were young most of us love to run about or so on.
But now I realised we should have cared more.
Another grandpa's brother always buys us the green orange.
Few years back I thought he was still alive but I was wrong.
About my paternal grandma.
Her name is Letchumy!
Well. she used to work at a white man's house back at Island.
She was a cook at that time.
Dad told us that the white man wanted to buy him since he has only girls.
He said there was once during Xmas, the white man was drunk and tried to squeeze my dad into a box.
=.=''
So, yeah. great cook, great grandma, always buys us sweets
Ah sweets.
We used to run to her and go around her waist cuz she hides them there.
LOL
Sometimes my elderly cousin brothers grab the whole packet and run.
Hahaha.
I was living in a quarters at Bukit Tengah.
But mostly we join relations back at the estate.
So more like a
kampung la.
In fact, being raised in kampung its just something amazing. The house my grandpa built is beautiful even tho' its built at low cost.
So If you walk past the front door, you will pass the hall and then staircase ( which leads upstairs) and 2 rooms and kitchen and 2 shower rooms and another hall and another room and another empty box space like porch and another kitchen. Then attached at the boxy space is another house. Beside the first house is another house. It used to be a tape show but not anymore since CD appeared.
The boxy space is kinda like open space, so we have to walk barefoot to go to plantation part.
And then the animal huts.
We used to rear goats, cows, chicken and Turkey.
We love to chase the turkeys and make the 'turkey' sound.LOL
Something like 'kloo kloo kloo'
LMAO.
Anyway, my late cousin brother loved his goats and named one as AUSTIN POWER.
But well, it was someones dinner and so did the other animals.
There is well at the plantation part.
We have mostly all the vegetables and sell them off.
We used to go there and play around while my grandma and aunt gets the veges.
Living in a big house is fun.
Plus filled with lots of cousins is even MERRIER.
Its best when we play hide N seek.
I was about 5 when i started to play hide N seek.
So everyone was running here to get their place.
I thought of hiding at the goat shed but my cousin brother got there first. =.=''
I was standing thinking where am I supposed to hide and I was standing near my uncle motorbike since he was actually chatting with my dad.
And I then i heard my cousins countdown was getting shorter.
So I turned around to run back into the house.
And then I started to scream,
Kena exhaust pipe already la.Everyone started to run towards me.
LOL again.
There came my dad carrying me, and I couldnt bear it.
One of my aunt quickly took the banana stem and put it on my leg.
Shouted, cried, shouted, cried.
Everyone kinda got scolded by granma.
Uncle gotten the most.
Then my mom brought me to my grandma's room and put me to bed.
Few hours later I woke up and I went to the hall.
Usually in the afternoons, all of us will be in the hall
We will close the main door and watch movie together.
Girls have to sit on the floor whereas the men gets to sit on the couch.
Sort of respect
la.Anyway, that was the time i had the chance to sit on the couch.
LOL
Of course I was happy, my mom even bring me a bowl chicken soup to the front and allow me to eat.
From that day onwards, i get to sit on the couch.LOL
Even now my aunt always tell me to sit on the couch but sometimes
paiseh also
la cuz my mom and cousins will be on the floor, so I kinda of join em' too.
Once my mom told me, when she first got married, my grandma and her sis in laws didnt allow her to enter the kitchen, they told her to sit and watch TV. And so my mom went at the front and sat on the couch.
Then my dad's late eldest brother walked pass my mom and glared at her.
So mom was a bit afraid and told her in law about it.
They laughed at her and told her apparently ladies are not allow to sit on the couch.
He actually died when i was about 9 months old.
Mom told me that he
sayang me alot LOL since his daughter doesn't to stick around with him.
At one time my mom kinda of lost me, and then my late uncle came and told my mom he took me out to buy me knitted hand gloves and went back to the shop cuz apparently it didn't fit so he had to go back to screw the guy who sold it.
=.=''
Usually my uncles will 'prey' me with sweets so that I would come to them but I would happily grab it and run off.
And my uncles, aunts and cousins still calls me
''papa''.
=.=''
sometimes its embarassing but sometimes its nice too cuz my mom would have this ridiculous look on her face over and over again.
=P
So yeah, i used to have aunties(Dad's sisters)
One passed away when she was 13. Her name was Theresa.
She had to be Christian since the rest of my dad's siblings are hindus'. So one of them had to.
~Oh ya, i Have step aunties and uncles as well since I am from the 2nd grandma.
She died after she came back from school.
IDK why.
Anyway, i had another aunty. She had this disease and I'm not sure what but I was old enough to remember her.
She died somewhere in 1999.
I can still remember her funeral cuz they had took remove her
thali and all those virgins had to turn la.
But I was so curious, and saw my uncle doing so.
She has 3 sons. The youngest one is dumb and deaf.
It was pity to see him cry over his mom's dead body.
I was the only one at that point of time who is able to use sign language cuz i learned back in my primary school.
We had the special building for the kids which such defects. So i would mix around with them and learn how to communicate .
Later on, we had to find another girl to take care of the family. So uncle married with another women.
Sometimes I will ask this little boy where is his money and so, He says(in sign language) each time he gets money, his step mom gets it from him.
=.=''
So secretly I'll pass some to him and told him not to tell anyone including my parents.LOL
Later then my late cousin brother had SLE. I guess its because of him being too much with the animals.
He survived. He got it when he was 17.
He was mentally affected but not totally I mean.
He gets pissed pretty fast and sings alot.
So once he went to the river bank behind our backyard.
He saw this hairy ball floating in the river, so he turned it over and saw a dead girl.
=.=
And I'm serious, he ran hysterically telling everyone that ''So and so'' had died.
Well, actually the ''so and so'' is till alive, the dead girl was somebody else.
Behind our backyard, was a wide palm tree plantation.
Waddaya expect.Its estate.
So we have our very own graveyard
Each time its Deepavali, we would go down and burn fire crackers at our ancestors graveyard
hehehe.
Wake up call perhaps?
They are couple of mini temples around
And i still wonder what goes down the road at the palm tree plantation.
One day, when I was 6, dad brought me and brothers as well as other cous brothers to go down the road cuz there was a helicopter landed.
At that point of time helicopter was somthing amazing to see.
So ya, we were walking along the road and we saw a heard of buffaloes
Guess it, I was wearing a red dress and so did my 2nd brother.
Yes
It chased after Us.
We ran and ran
I couldnt run any faster and one of the buffalo's horn was 2 inch away cuz i kept on turning back.
The guys were able to run very much faster
So my dad had to drag me and we got into this cage.
These buffaloes were waiting around the palm tree
and my brother had to remove his shirt whereas I had to wear on one of my cous Ts.
I couldn't stop crying.
Then my dumb bell cous happily riding her bicylce and shouting out our names
as she was wondering why are we in cage?
Yeah, we finnaly made it home.
And since then, i dont dare to go out to the graveyard nor step out to the backyard road.
So ya, in 2002 my grandma passed away.(Before my late cousin brother with SLE)
She had a stroke, i guess she would have survived if the medical assistants were carefull when bringing her down.
They were pretty harsh and her bed was bumping. Plus, grandma is afraid of Hospital.
And my mom saw her hand kinda of fall la.
So she knew it.
Dad got pissed off and really I mean.
And parents woke us up at that night.
Two weeks later, my dad's cousins wife who live few doors away passed away too.
I remember when we first move in to my current house, we had the first Diwali at BM, my grandma had her first stroke, eagerly i entered the car to accompany my grandma and parents to hospital. While I was at the back seat, my mom opened my Grandma's mouth and took her set of teeth out.
Not knowing she has been wearing fake ones for a long time, I freaked out and screamed in the car and quickly ran off home and was shaking like a leaf.
At times, when any of my mom's relations or far ones asks me bout my paternal granma whom they address '
'patti'', I'll go ''Not
patti, Its
Atta''.
Cuz
patti is for my maternal granma whom i am not fond of and other elderly old folks.
Then in 2005 my cousin brother( Dad's favourite nephew) passed away, the SLE came back again.
He died all of the sudden. He was alright when he came here.
I kinda of miss him too.
During his funeral, he had to marry with a banana stem since he wasn't married.
Everytime I chat with Naga .He reminds me of him. 80%!
My dad really cried over him.
My late cousin brother actually prays to my dad's picture everytime he wakes up. I guess he's thankfull to my dad.
He buys me stuffs that i want whereas he beats up his sister.
lol.
He used to call me
lailo.
There was this chinese lady who walks near our old quartress with her pail.
She's a bit kuku you see.
So when I don't finish up my food.
My mom would call her (
Lai Lo)
Since then, I was nicknamed
lailo.
Yesterday, I just realised it was actually ''come here'' in chinese, cuz for nearly 12 years i thought it was her real name
HAHAHAHHAHA
Anyway less
than
2 years, my another 3 year old cousin passed away due to pneumonia.
I guess his mother neglected the shots they had to give him.
And then,
dad's uncle passed away less than a year later.
Everything started to change when my dad's youngest brother moved out to another house.
And another brother ( the one lost the 3 year old) of his moved out to better place and rented his place to the indian immigrants.
Whereas my late dad's sister family built a house behind us and vacant the previous one.
My second uncle's family are the one left living in that triple attached house.
No more plantation as my dad's brother puts up his tractors and uses the another vacant house for the immigrants workers to stay as well.
The house is currently quiet.
It used to be fun.
Cuz there were so many cousins around.
We used to play around, chase after the big rats.
But yeah, its all
USED TO BE
No more turkeys, no more cows, no more Austin Powers
No more celebrating Diwali
No more hide N seek
No more Johnny( The dog we used to own).
Practically Nothing.
I wished It was like old times.
I would love to chase after the turkeys again with my bare feet.
Sometimes it's just too late.
Mom says I look more like my paternal grandma more than her.
I guess I have bits of both
For the time i troubled her.
When I was 5...
Myself: Ma.. I want to go to the toilet
Mom: Okay.( while watching t.v back at quarters)
--Came back within a minute with a suprised look--
Myself: Ma Ma.. i saw a biiiiiiggggggggggg centipede maaa
Mom: Centipede?!( funny disbelief look)
Myself: (nod) Yes ma..biggggg centipede * gestures
---Mom followed me to the toilet and flushed ---
It wasn't a centipede. It was a Snake.
^^
This is for my second brother whom I haven't spoken a word since the last 5 years .
We just stop talking

This is for my eldest brother
whom i share everything with.
He's more like the middleman.
Haha
The time we three used to play with the fishes in the drain and playing with most crawlers.
Writing on the walls.
Catching fire flies and always looking up for snakes and centipedes.
And watching ''Pinky Pinky Pong Pong''
This is for my 23rd aunt, whom I stick with
and share most of my personal stories and hers as well.
Sometimes stories that i should keep away from my mom and other aunts.
Thanks to her, I have at least few pictures of myself to keep//dressing and getting me at least a 2 year old birthday.
Thanks to her, for getting me stuffs specially the red dress even i refused to follow her. T
hanks to her, for taking care of me till now.
and Thanks to her I can now bully her kids =D
Thanks to my dad for at least remembering that I have a birthdate and not regretting for having me as a girl
( Which he originally did).
You did enough, So go have a break =)

I'll miss my family dearlyLabels: Family, Memory
